I've been spending too much time on Twitter blasting content, info about Refynr.com, and retweeting related content. Some of that can be helpful to grow your followers and provide interesting content. But it doesn't target the correct people in most cases...
You want to find your target customers and give them helpful feedback that directs them to your product. Here's how I did it with Refynr this morning. It worked quite well!
In HootSuite.com, I created some search columns with searches like "twitter spam AND ?", "filter AND twitter AND ?" for my http://twitter.com/refynr account. Those searches target tweets about twitter spam or filtering that are *questions*.
I scanned through them with the intent of "helping" people with pain that my product solves. Here's some sample tweets that I found, with my responses:
Example 1:
"Quora: What is the most effective way to browse and filter the content of my own Twitter lists?: "
Me: "Refynr.com let's u filters on keywords so that you only see items that match (but so far only for your Friends.. Lists up next)"
"@ Good to know, Thanks!"
Example 2:
"Is it possible to filter out offending terms in twitter? (like - on search) -coulson -royal -jordan -boffin would be a start"
Me: "Refynr.com will filter 95% of unwanted content by default, depending on the search terms you use"
"@ I wasn't expecting an answer to that, but I am very glad that you did, many thanks, will give it a try"
Example 3:
"Any suggestions for Droid app that can filter peep and hashes? Tried tweetcaster but interface pain for discussion tags"
Me: "try Refynr.com, which has a Android friendly interface"
"@ thanks - I'll take a look"
... and they did take a look! These 3 examples signed up, and 2 others did within an hour of the tweet conversations. Some of them started up additional conversations with me about where I live, etc. One even invited me to connect on LinkedIn. This isn't a ton of new users, I know, but had a very good success rate. I sent 8 targeted tweets and got 5 new signups. That's a much more effective and efficient use of my time, don't you think?
Anyone have similar success stories with using Twitter or Facebook to find new users of your product?
