... or at least for me...
Blog something useful, related to your website, and let the bots & humanoids find it.
That's the lesson I learned from my most popular blog article ever "Top 14 Tools for my web Startup". According to Posterous stats, it got nearly 10,000 visits in the first 24 hours (and has nearly 15,000 now). And it was even featured on the front page of HN (Hacker News) for a few hours: http://news.ycombinator.com/item?id=1893868
My average article gets closer to a total of 3 - 4,000 visits within a _month_.
What else have I tried for boosting traffic to Refynr.com?
- tweeting from my primary account: http://twitter.com/aqlong (700+ followers)
- tweeting from my startup's account: http://twitter.com/refynr (200+ followers)
- posting on my startup's Facebook page: http://www.facebook.com/pages/Refynrcom/158860507471554
- posting on FB (400+ Friends)
- advertising on FB (though I haven't put much money behind this, yet)
Most of those ways only reach people I already know. In order to really get "traction", I know that I need to reach lot's of people that aren't already in my networks.
How much did it increase traffic?
A LOT (see graphics below): > 340 x on my blog and > 6 x on my start-up website:
What made "Top 14 Tools for my web Startup" so popular?I'm not entirely sure, but here's some thoughts... see if you agree:
- The title is kinda catchy
- Whether you already have a startup company, or want to start one, it provides useful information
- It got quite a few comments
- It's possible a real humanoid (not a web bot) found the post and put it on Hacker News, but I'm not sure how that works...
Any one else experience something like this before? I like it, but at the same time it makes me nervous that I'll never be able to duplicate the feat...
